How To Create Custom Lip Colors

One day I was going through my stash of makeup and saw all the eye shadow colors and the lovely blush colors I had. The idea struck me to see if I could create that much variety in my lip colors. Now don't get me wrong I was not thinking of blue or green lips, no I'm not that adventurous but I did wonder at playing with the orange, pinks and purples!

So I tried some wacky things and then decided to share with you how to create your own custom lip color.

How To Create Custom Lip Colors - What You Need

First all you need any long staying eye shadow or blush that you have. I have tried powder eye shadows and powder blushes. You may wish to try cream eye shadow and blushes as well. They will be easier to work with for sure.

I used the blush from my Clinique makeup palette.

Along with this you need a clear lip gloss - I used the Maybelline Shiny Licious Lipgloss. And you need a lip brush for better application (you can do away with this if you don't have one)

Now here are the steps to create your custom lip color.
1. Exfoliate your lips properly
2. Apply a lip balm and after a minute blot it out with a tissue.
3. Now take your favorite eye shadow or blush and apply it all over your lips. You can apply it with your finger, your lip brush or your regular eye shadow brush. Apply a decent coating of the product but don't overload it. Once you are satisfied with the color on your lips dust off extra product using a tissue - blot it out. This will also help the color bind to your lips better.
4. Finally take your lip brush and gently coat your lips with the clear gloss.

This is the easiest way of creating custom colors on your lips. You can play with colors, you can play with using a colored gloss over colored eye shadow to give you unique colors. The only drawback here is that the colors are not long lasting but again the trick to make it work is to use a primer on your lips or use long lasting colors.

Below are two lip swatches - the first one is created using the blush from the Clinique palette while the second one is created using an orange eye shadow. As you will notice both of them do a decent job on my highly pigmented lips.
